The district heating pool was launched by the Danish Energy Agency as a subsidy scheme for district heating companies to support their expansion of the district heating network in new areas to replace heating with gas or oil boilers.

The district heating pool was established as a climate measure in the Danish Climate Agreement of 2020. Since then, the district heating pool received several rounds of funding including the most recent Winter Package 2022. The pool is expected to re-open for applications on 23 January 2023.

The fund was included in the Finance Act for 2024 with 150 million DKK.
