The purpose of this grant program is to encourage and promote the realization of actions in the industrial sector to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by improving energy efficiency, thus help to achieve the objectives of reducing the consumption of final energy set by Directive 2012/27/EU. To this end has been established a line of support directed to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and large companies in the industrial sector in order to facilitate the implementation of measures to improve energy efficiency and implementation of energy management systems. This line of support was conceived to be further expanded in the following years until 2020. This program will facilitate the implementation of saving measures and energy efficiency as identified by the proposed industrial or energy audits to reduce energy consumption in industrial processes. In this way it reinforces and continues the obligation Article 8 of Directive 2012/27/EU imposes on large companies to perform an energy audit before 5 December 2015, and at least every four years from the date of its execution. This program has been allocated with a maximum budget amounting to of €591,105,577 , coming from the National Energy Efficiency Fund, created by Law 18/2014, of 15 October, approving urgent measures for growth, competitiveness and efficiency. The aids from this programme may be cofinanced by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Operational Programme for Sustainable Growth 2014-2020. The aid granted by virtue of the Programme will be implemented in the form of money allowance without compensation, with a maximum amount of 30% of the corresponding eligible investment, and a maximum amount of the eligible investment per application of M€4. Measures and/or actions that may be made eligible for aid must fit into one or more of the following types: Improving technology equipment and industrial processes, for actions with a minimum eligible investment of €75,000; and Implementation of energy management systems for actions with a minimum eligible investment of €30,000.

Oil Prices Slide 2% as Markets Brace for Bessent’s ‘Economic D-Day’

Oil prices fell by more than 2% in early Asian trade on Monday as traders took profits and markets awaited details of a new U.S. sanctions package against Iran. At the time of writing, WTI futures were trading at $85.18 per barrel, down 2.16%, while Brent futures were trading at $92.32 per barrel, down 2.19%. Both benchmarks gained more than 5% last week as the U.S. and Iran continued to trade threats, Iranian crude exports dropped, and tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed to a trickle. Today’s pullback appears to be driven…

Diesel Crisis Threatens to Outlast the Middle East War

The outlook for the Middle East war remains grim, the U.S. just threatened Iran with the “toughest sanctions in history,” and the world is running out of stored fuels. To make matters worse, refining capacity is down considerably, and even if the outlook for the war suddenly changed and the U.S. and Iran made peace, the fuel squeeze will last for months—and so will its adverse effects on the global economy. Watching crude oil prices, one would think everything is under control. Both Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate are…

Pemex and Petrobras Bet Big on High-Risk High-Reward Drilling Off Mexico

Mexico’s state oil firm Pemex and Brazil’s national oil company Petrobras are joining efforts and expertise to drill prospects in Mexican waters in the Gulf of Mexico, hoping to unlock huge oil resources from source rock formations that are miles deeper and eight times older than the currently producing formations in the U.S. Gulf. Exploration in the Jurassic formations deep under the Mexican Gulf seabed in the Campeche Bay carries high risks, but the reward in case of a discovery could be enormous, geologists and analysts tell Bloomberg.…

Super El Niño Threatens Food, Water and Trade Worldwide

The world is set to experience an extremely intense El Niño weather event this year, with warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific. This could disrupt typical weather patterns and lead to heavy rainfall in some regions and severe drought in others. While it is unclear whether the more frequent occurrence of El Niño is directly linked to human-caused climate change, it is certainly exacerbating extreme weather patterns in some parts of the world. El Niño occurs every few years, but this year…

Private Equity Is Circling Utilities as AI Reshapes the Grid

While it seems that Democrats and Republicans can’t agree on much of anything these days, there’s at least one common enemy that’s bringing both sides of the aisle together: data centers. Representatives on both sides of the aisle are increasingly pushing back against hyperscalers who are developing massive data center campuses on local energy grids, driving up energy demand and therefore causing electricity prices to skyrocket for everyone, whether they benefit from the artificial intelligence boom or not. The Trump administration…
