Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment

The Government of Canada has set a mandatory target for all new light-duty cars and passenger trucks to be zero-emission by 2035.

Funded through Budget 2019 and the 2020 Fall Economic Statement, the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a 5-year $280 million program ending in 2024 and its objective is to support the deployment of 33,500 electric vehicle chargers and 10 hydrogen refuelling stations in public places, on-street, in multi-unit residential buildings and at workplaces, as well as strategic infrastructure projects for urban delivery and fleet applications.

The funding is delivered through cost-sharing contribution agreements for eligible projects that will help meet the growing charging and refuelling demand.

With Budget 2022, additional $400 million were dedicated to extend the program until March 2027. The program will be complemented by $500 million provided by Canada's Infrastructure Bank for large-scale ZEV charging and refuelling infrastructure.

ZEVIP includes CAD 2.4 million investment in Indio Park Canada, CAD 100 000 in Station Mont Tremblant, and CAD 100 000 in the City of Windsor to install new EV chargers across the country in August 2022.
